2 obols

what do you think about these 2 obols? Don't they seem too well preserved to be authentic?
Or maybe I'm just being paranoid.

AR Obol, c390-380BC, c0.8g, c9mm, nagidos

AR Obol, c425-400BC, c8mm, c0.7g, athens(?)

Thanks in advance for the answers!

Hi

As obols always hard to say but my gut would be that they are OK. Would need to see them in the fabric or, if cannot, have a hi-res photo available.

Mike Vosper and Münz Auktions guarantee their items so I am sure if you ask
this dealer about them (ie: his coins) this may put your mind more at ease.

By the way, what does "too well preserved to be authentic" mean? Are you
suggesting that if an ancient coin is EF or better it must be fake? Surely not!

I had some "chap" attack me and an article I wrote because the coin I used
to illustrate it was an EF+ Alexander tetradrachm. He suggested that the coin
must be fake simply because it was so very nice. The abuse I copped was
probably only matched by the quality of the coin, oh, and the level of scorn
and contempt I now hold for this poor, ignorant creature for his intransigence.

I of course didn't intent to offend someone with my question and i don't even know the dealer of the coins. My cousin bought these coins from e-bay and linked the pictures to me as he waits for them. I'm just generally suspicious and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

If these coin photos are from Vosper and Munz auction/website but have been used by another seller on ebay, that would obviously be very worrying and I would raise your concern!

Is this the case?

Have just looked and can see as sold on MV Vcoins site - can you send ebay link?

The obols are fine, but as Alex points out the transaction itself might be the cause for greater concern. You are correct in having a suspicious eye when it comes to ancient coins on eBay. Good finds are to be had, but sadly more often one has to wade through a sea of fakes and con artists.

Just asked him and he told me that Vosper is the dealer he ordered the coins from. So i guess everything is fine.
