Is the map project still alive?
It's been awhile since someone posted here. I'm curious to know what came of the interactive map project and if it's still ongoing.

I think people haven't had the time to devote to this. I would really like to see it get off the ground, though. It would be a worthwhile effort.

Yes, it has been a while. The first one I made was rather painful - learning new software always is. It seems the instructions are made for people who already have skills - which I didn't. So much of what I did was trial and error.
Because I am iced in this weekend (74 degrees two days ago!), I would like to get started on a second interactive map for my website. This was a project started on ancientinfo.com http://tjbuggey.ancients.info/spread.html I need ideas. My skill level with Flash creations is the same so I need something simple that would fit well onto an a map of ancient times and follow a timeline. Please share any ideas on or off list. Thanks very much, Tom |

How about a map of Carthaginian conflict with Sicily or a map of the Punic Wars w/ associated Carthaginian coinage from North Africa, Hispania, and Italy?
BTW - that link isn't working fully. The page loads, but there's a large white area where the map should be. I'm a Univ. of Memphis grad. '92 and former lifelong Memphis native until '94. I understand Memphis is having a banner year for snow...the ice storm of '91 or '92 was the worst, however. I lived on Peabody in midtown at the time and was without power for 1 1/2 weeks! I finally got a new Flash movie up onto my Greek Colony page:
http://tjbuggey.ancients.info/colonies.html I got stranded in Dallas over the 4th and when I went to put the movie on my page, I saw that it was 4 MB in size. Thus, I redid the whole thing from scratch and still ended up with 900 k product. It is very crude and still needs work. Comments greatly appreciated!!! Tom ps - I did get Carthage and other phoenician colonies on there. |

For some reason the Flash or Shockwave is not working for me. I'm running Microsoft Internet Explorer with all the Macromedia plugins, so I don't think it's a problem on my end. Is anyone else seeing a blank area on this webpage where the plugin graphics should be?

Yep, same here. I've tried several different browsers, all with the necessary plugins installed, but I keep seeing the blank area, too. ??

Sorry for delay in responding. I wish I had an answer for you. All I can say is that it looks fine in all browsers on my computer. My new project on the other hand looks good in Safari, but is a regular jigsaw puzzle before solution on Explorer.
http://tjbuggey.ancients.info/trajworld.html I think I need to consult some experts. Thanks for the feedback, Tom |

I moved all the link buttons off the main image. This seems to have eliminating the break ups. Please try it and see how it looks. It looks ok in my MAC in explorer and Safari.

Tom:
The flash movie is not loading, are there some missing files or did something "break"? I realize that this is an old thread, but it was an interesting project. Alfred Quote:
