Diammeter of Follis

I was wondering what the biggest diammeter for folles of Justinian I is. I have several pieces of between 38 and 42 mm in diammeter and one with a diammeter of 45 mm. The coin is from Cyzicus, year 541/42. I have never come across a bigger one or seen a reference to one that exceeds this size. Has anybody seen a reference to a follis exeeding 45 mm? thanks

Hello Dirk,

I can't see the image since tantaluscoins.com is looking to put two cookies on my computer and I block all cookies. Did you attach the image to the thread or did you include the image as a link from your Tantalus collection online? I am guessing you included it as a link as I usually do when I put images in threads.

Zach

I can't see it either. I don't think it is cookie related.

Mark,

I'm going to try something. Here is a direct link to Dirk's coin (which I could see on Tantalus, even after blocking the two cookies for tantalus.com and a hit counter cookie):

and below is an attached version of the same image from his Tantalus collection.

Just checking to see if either/both appear.

Weird. O.k. - now I deleted the block for tantalus.com to allow the cookies and I still don't see the direct link image. Also, oddly enough, while writing this reply in this thread, since I allowed cookies, it triggered tantalus.com to activate another cookie:

Cookie Information:

Name - bblastactivity
Domain - www.tantaluscoins.com
Path - /
Expires - Monday, April 13, 2009 4:29:48 PM
Secure - No
Data - 0

Session - No

Don't know what information is being sent to tantalus's server based on this cookie.

Thanks .... I don't know what or if I did something wrong. What is the best way to upload pictures to this forum or in general.

On Tantalus also only one of the two images I uploaded appeared. I suppose the coin is just too big ;-)

Anyway, I would be grateful for some advice on how to best upload pictures.

Thanks
Dirk

Dirk,

The way you wrote your email with the link is usually just fine. No idea why in this case we can't see it. Bill Puetz (the owner of VCoins/ancients.info, etc.) said the cookie thing from tantalus doesn't send information back to their server, so that can't be it.

The reason one of the posts I did shows your coin is because I saved the image from your on-line collection and used the "manage attachments" button (the paperclip) from this thread and attached it instead of linking to an external page.
