Question Removing artificial patinas

Hi Y'all, I suppose this category is the place for my question, since removing an artificial patina is a KIND of cleaning! Anyhoo, I have a coin which I have reason to believe has an artificial patina. Other than, say, electrolysis, is there an "accepted" way to remove these? In past I have boiled such coins in Grigotts and then used a brass brush. This is rather harsh and I don't want to use my old method on this coin. I did try a little bit of Acetone on the edge of the coin this a.m. and it didn't faze the patina. Thanks, e!
