AT 3 meters ???
any hoard that deep will have bad corrosion and thick dirt, and clearly this is not a Jar found, and clearly most of it just Four types and few are not, since we had handeled lots of those hoards and having one comming in the way I would say that the type mixture definatly dosent match any logice, and surely those are not a hoard, I always see in this type of hoards lot of Gloria and commerative coins, and all the Gloria in this one are in big size almost all AE 3 size and no AE 3/4 size. over all I woudent touch it and wouldent wast time on it. all the best Salem

Now everyone knows what NOT to buy. Every faked type has the same mintmark and officina. This should also make it easier to spot parts of this so called "treasure", even when broken up into smaller parts. For beginners this might be very confusing though, looking at the effort these forgers made to produce different types. Best regards, Marc

Check out the seller's banner...
![]() Ya gotta love the Uranius Antoninus tet on the bookends - that's a gorgeous coin. As if he owns it. Doubt it! But seriously, I'm laughing because he is using MY HADRIAN AUREUS in his logo!!! ![]() Hadrian, AV Aureus, 119-122, Rome IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HA_DRIANVS AVG Laureate, draped bust right, seen from behind P M TR P-COS III Minerva, helmeted, standing facing, head left, spear in left hand, pointing with right hand at Spanish olive tree at left, rabbit below facing right 19mm x 20mm, 7.12g RIC II, -- (cf. RIC 70, but unlisted with this bust type); Calico 1309 (citing a specimen in a Hess 1951 Auction, not this coin) Note: The rabbit on the reverse is in reference to the Roman province of Hispania Baetica and the issue is an appeal for the aid of the gods as he planned his first travels around the empire, leaving Rome in 121. On this example, Minerva is shown in her "peace-giving" aspect versus her more often seen guise of war. I should send him a note to tell him if he's going to push fakes on the Internet, he can't use my photo for his store! --Beast

Well, it looks like the "hoard" sellers are already gone. Their website http://www.sacra-moneta.de/ is already shutdown. How about that!

The Uranius Antoninus tet is currently in the Forvm catalog so I think this guy has done much more than dream about the coins in that banner.

in fact, every coin from the banner is a direct copy from the Forum catalog.

A Fake on eBay from the "Hoard"
Here's one of the fakes from this group now showing up on eBay Great Britain:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CONSTANTINE-II...d=p3286.c0.m14 It sure looks to be a match to the coins in this lot of fakes. Paul Bulgerin bulgerin@sbcglobal.net |

I think it's funny that the same seller is also listing a pirated copy of RIC on CD, so buyers can properly attribute their fake coins.

Looks as if we are approaching a new era of counterfieting that will do great harm to the hobby. In the past it was taken for granted common Late Roman Bronze was immune from being copied because of their low retail value. Seens that has changed with the new technology and outlets to market these fakes.
As you mentioned about the pirated RIC, perhaps these forgers can create "unlisted in RIC" "very rare" and "unique" products for a value added touch. Like to see how many will be fooled by that. Be that as it may, thanks for bringing this to our attention. PS With tons of cull material out there, I assume the forgers will use ancients metals to give their wares an added benefit to fool "eperts! |
